Posting text content to GoDaddy pages
Two primary ways exist for posting text on a GoDaddy web page - typing directly into a page or cutting and pasting from a text editor.
There is no "right" or "wrong" way to post text - either method works and has advantages and issues.
Trial and error has proven to us that the preferred way is to use Notepad for composing, followed by cutting and pasting the text onto a page. The reasons for this are simple: Notepad is a basic editing program with virtually no formatting. In contrast, Microsoft Word has much formatting involved, some obvious and some not. Using Notepad avoids conflicts with GoDaddy's format and allows a user to easily change the posted text as desired on the GoDaddy page.
If one is not comfortable with the cut and paste process or wishes to make quick and immediate changes on a page, type directly into the page space instead. Be aware that this may cause formats (e.g. font types and size) to appear different than the existing page content. It can be quite time-consuming and frustrating to resolve these formatting issues.
1) Type directly into a web page
- Select the target page from the page navigation bar and the page will open
- A page title is at the top, and a box below with "Click here to add text or insert objects"
- Click on the words or in the box to add text
- By default, the font type and size is Arial 11px and bold
- Start typing the desired text into the box
2) Cut and paste from a word processing program such as Word, Notepad or Wordpad
- Open Notepad or other word processor
- Start typing the desired text into the editor
- Save the text when finished
- Click on "edit" at the top menu and "select all" - this highlights all text in the editor
- With the highlighted text, click on "edit" and "copy" from the menu
- Paste the text into the web page either by using "ctrl-V" or right click and "paste" in the active box
The following two steps are next for either method:
When finished typing, click on the disk icon in the lower right corner of the box. The circle with the line through it clears all content permanently from the box, but only the active box.
After you've saved, the page may be published. Congratulations - you are the proud parent of a bouncing baby web site!
Steps for putting images on a Website Tonight® page:
Many images must be “cropped” to set appropriate size. Use the Paint program in Windows to do this. Open up Paint, select ‘new’ from the file menu, and then either open the desired image or paste it from the clipboard.
- Open up the desired web page
- Select the target ‘box’ for the image by clicking in the box
- Select ‘insert’ from the tabs (‘page’, ‘insert’, ‘options’) at the top center of the page
- Select ‘image’ from the resulting options
You can choose to either select an existing image or upload a new image
- To upload a new image, select ‘upload image’ and click on ‘browse’ locate the image on your local computer. Uploading the image(s) will create a copy on GoDaddy’s server.
- Select ‘upload file’ when the desired image(s) are chosen
- Click on the ‘My images’ tab and select the image(s). Put a check in the box in the upper right corner of the image.
- Click on ‘ok’ to paste the image(s) in the window
The image(s) may or not be the size you’d like in the page box. To change the properties of the image (size, text, effects), double click on the image just pasted. In the resulting ‘edit image’ box, one may adjust as necessary or desired.
Please note that any image pasted is not searchable by web browsers. Any text imbedded in the image is part of the image itself (e.g. jpg, gif, png) and will not be picked up by Google, Yahoo, Bing or any other search engine. If you are setting up an online store, remember to add labels for the pictured products (images).
